HUNTLY CASTLE
Photo by Rachel NighWHAT TO LOOK FOR AT THE SITE AND WHO ITS SUITED FOR:
Set by the Bogie and Deveron rivers at the edge of Huntly town, this castle is a lovely ruin. They have preserved some of the detail work with overhangs, which is something I haven't seen before even at the bigger palaces. This place makes me a little more nervous with kids as there are a few places the higher you go that are a little more perilous than other ruins. But it is a nice spot and has some great views. Definitely you should see this place at least once.
GIFT SHOP / TEA ROOM / RESTAURANT / TOILET AVAILABILTY:
There is a little gift shop and there are toilets but no tea room or restaurant. You can walk into town (or drive) and there are little places to stop there.

OPENING TIMES:
April 1st through September 30th open all week 9:30 to 5:30pm
October 1st through October 31st open all week 9:30 to 4:30pm
November 1st through March 31st open All week except Thursdays 9:30 to 4:30pm
Be careful and call first in the winter as they close if there is ice and snow on the ground.

PLACES TO VISIT NEARBY:
The Dean Shortbread Factory is also in town and we hear its a great place to take the family. You can eat in their shop and buy freshly made shortbread--a great touristy and family thing to do rolled into one.
Castle Fraser is practically on the way home from Huntly and also a good castle to stop by and see. They have a good adventure playground, a great little shop, and a nice victorianized castle.
